Write Quality Content

The single most important thing you need to do if you want to be found on the web is fill your site with quality content. Visitors come back to a site with worthwhile content. Many return visitors who are fond of your content will link to your site.  Having numerous inbound links is good for search engine rankings.  This is especially true if those links are from highly ranked sites.

Quality content is wording that is factually and grammatically correct, though that is not necessarily a must for all kinds of sites.  Content needs to be unique and precise enough to appeal to people no matter what your site is about, more specifically, it needs to be practical to the people you want to find your site.

Fresh content is interrelated with quality content.  If you add new content frequently, you give visitors a reason to return to your site. Search engine robots will also visit your site more often once they notice that you update information regularly, which means that any new content you add will be indexed more rapidly.

Creating quality content is rarely the responsibility of the web designer. Frequently, the client wants to write their own copy but if at all possible, try to make the client realize that they should employ a copywriter to help them either write or edit what they have written. It needs to be made clear to them that they can't expect consistent high rankings without quality content.
